How can customers find the right premium perfume in an online discovery process?
The solution is a smooth step-by-step discovery journey where customers answer a few questions to find their right perfume.
UX research, UI design, Brand identity
Initial research focused on what questions customers tend to answer when searching for a new perfume.
What are customers looking for in a scent?
How do customers not get overwhelmed with too many perfume options?
What are users current pain points when looking for a perfume?
Which features are essential to finding the perfect perfume?
Field research was done in perfumeries in Paris, France. Perfume store employees answered the question, "How do you help clients find the right perfume"?

Employees need to help customers quickly, by asking only a few questions.
Employees often ask whether customers are more into fresh or sweet flavours.
Another question employees ask is whether customers are into intense or lighter scents.
Customers tend to prefer more masculine or feminine scents, based on their gender.
Customers mostly mention a perfume they already have or like.
Shop employees are skeptical about selling perfumes to customers without them smelling first.
After conducting employee interviews, it was clear that three aspects are important to perfume buyers: the moment of use (daytime or nighttime), gender identification (more manly or more feminine scents) and the family a fragrance belongs to (ranging from sweet, fresh to sensual and woody).
The perfume options were then plotted on a 2x2 grid, ranging these scents on a feminine/masculine and daytimevs nightime scale.

The perfume grid helped us categorise all perfumes and think of questions that guide customers to find the right perfume selection.

Different steps were defined in the customer journey. These steps were translated into wireframes leading customers to their perfect perfume fit.

With great care, the below fragrance families have been designed as fragrance bouquets. These have the function to guide the customer in finding the right fragrance family.

Inspiration was drawn from fine dining restaurants with a focus on minimal yet functional simplicity. The UI design reflects the user's desire to have a clutter free, curated look and feel.

Customers can swiftly find their perfume online, focusing on the essentials of their search.
Customers still strongly identify with a gender for their perfume choice. Therefore, this is the first quiz question.
Customers roughly know what fragrance types they desire, like sweet of fresh. The second question responds to this need.
Customers generally know whether they want a daytime or nighttime perfume. The last question zooms in on this.
Customers are presented with three top options, fitting their preferences.
Customers can get more information about a specific scent, to convince them more into buying their top option.
